MEMA XML EDI Guidelines
The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) provides leadership for the development of
industry standards that will facilitate information technology (IT) use by and e-commerce
communications between MEMA members and their trading partners. The MEMA Information
Services Council (MIS Council), a peer council for IT professionals from MEMA member companies,
provides the forum for standards development activities.
The MIS Council established the XML EDI Committee in 2004 to develop XML versions of MEMA EDI
standard guidelines. The Committee’s purpose is to develop standard XML EDI formats to prevent
the proliferation of standards or XML methods required for use in the aftermarket. The major
goal is to minimize the number of methods manufacturers must implement to meet customer requirements,
to conduct businesses in the OE market and to conduct business in the heavy duty segment.
The Committee uses format methodology based on Open Application Group’s Business Object
Documents (BODs) to minimize the differences between aftermarket standards and those
sed by the OE automotive industry.
The following business documents will be addressed by the Committee:
• Purchase Order
• Purchase Order Acknowledgment
• Advance Ship Notice
• Invoice
