Craig Young awarded MIS council spirit of the industry award

Research Triangle Park, N.C., October 27, 2005 – The MEMA Information Services Council (MIS Council) recently presented its Spirit of the Industry award to Craig Young at the organization’s annual Fall Conference. Young, Director of Information Systems for SKF in Elgin, Ill., has led e-commerce and IT activities for SKF and the industry for many years and is the first person to receive the award in four years.

The MIS Council presents the Spirit of the Industry award to individuals who contribute time and effort to improving the aftermarket supply chain through technology committee leadership, standards development and e-commerce initiative contributions. Young has worked in the automotive aftermarket for 30 years and has been active with MEMA and the MIS Council for more than 20 years. He has served as the organization’s chairman and a board member, helped develop the original Direct-Connect application and has served on numerous e-commerce standards committees.

“Craig Young epitomizes what the Spirit of the Industry award is all about,” said Al Jones, president of MEMA’s e-commerce division. “He has given selflessly of his time to multiple committees and projects and has shared his quiet counsel, vast knowledge and experience with the many endeavors that have helped shape the automotive industry.”

"To be presented the Spirit of the Industry Award is truly the greatest recognition I have ever received,” said Young. “The fact that it has been presented to very few recipients makes it a special award, and I am extremely honored to be recognized by my peers in the automotive aftermarket.”

The MIS Council Fall Conference is the only forum dedicated to industry interaction, education and dialogue regarding matters of common interest to IT/IS professionals, e-business managers and related executives in automotive manufacturing companies. E-commerce initiatives are facilitated, progress is recognized and accomplishments are celebrated at the annual event.

“Working with MEMA and other industry groups has been very rewarding,” said Young. “They provide the framework and support that allow individuals the opportunity to make a difference in the industry."
